Sample of a typical
trunk show
The following illustrates a typical example of
a recent trunk show held onboard the Queen Mary 2 during a
cruise to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The trunk show featured a
company specialising in Brazilian coloured gemstones and
jewellery.
Day One and Two:
”Spot the Gemstone Competition”. Can you tell an Aquamarine from
a Blue Topaz? A competition set up in the jewellery shop where
guests try to spot an Aquamarine among Blue Topaz. This free
competition gets people into the shop and gives the vendors a
chance to introduce themselves to the guests and talk about what
they will be doing later in the voyage.
Day Three:
”Champagne Sneak Preview”. A special event in-store for invited
high rollers with champagne and canapés during the
cocktail hour before dinner.
Day Four:
”Lecture and Unveiling”. This is a twenty-five minute slide show
featuring all the major coloured gems from Brazil. The winner of
the “Spot the Gemstone Competition” is announced and the
collection is unveiled in the shop. Drawing the competition
at the show ensures a good turnout to the lecture and the
unveiling.
